Seven Fun Things to Do in New York City During a Snow Day
Have you ever planned a trip to New York City only to have snowed all day? Fear not. You can still have a lot of fun in New York City. So whether you are visiting for the first time or a just bored local, here are seven fun things to do in New York City during a snow day.
Go to a Museum

Probably your first reaction to a snowstorm or blizzard is to stay indoors. A snow day is the perfect time to take advantage of all the world class museums in New York City. You can easily spend a whole day at Museum of Modern Art (11 W 53rd St), American Museum of Natural History (Central Park West & 79th St), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (1071 5th Ave) or Metropolitan Museum of Art (1000 5th Ave).
Check out the New York Public Library

The main branch of the New York Public Library aka the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building (476 5th Ave) is also a lot of fun to just wander around. You can check out the famous Rose Main Reading Room, seasonal exhibitions on display and all fascinating art throughout the historic building. While you are in the area, you can also visit Bryant Park, their ice skating rink and their holiday market.
Shop at the Westfield and Brookfield Mall
Another great option if you want to stay indoors is to shop around the Westfield and Brookfield Mall. These malls, the World Trade Center Path station and the Fulton Street subway station are all connected so you can avoid all the snow. There are a bunch of interesting shops, exciting places to eat and even a holiday market during the winter.
Go Sledding in Central Park or Prospect Park

Maybe you don’t want to be cooped up indoors and want to take full advantage of all the snow! We highly recommend sledding in Central Park or Prospect Park. It is a ton of fun.
Build a Snowman

Similarly you can build a snowman in the park or maybe just admire all the snowmen around the city. One snowman that we always visit is probably one of the biggest snowmen in the city. It can be found in the Lower East Side at the corner of corner of Essex and Canal Street after the first big snowstorm.
See a Broadway Play
If you are willing to brave the cold and snow, you probably can find tickets to some of the most popular Broadway plays like Hamilton or Aladdin often at a big discount. Check out their standby lines or even the TKTS booth the day of to see what your options are. Make sure to check social media beforehand to save a trip in case any of the Broadways show are closed due to the weather.
Dine Out
Finally it is often very difficult to get a table or a reservation at restaurants like Le Bernardin (155 W 51st St), Peter Luger Steak House (178 Broadway, Brooklyn) and Dirt Candy (430 E 9th St). So a big snowstorm may be the best time to get a table and try some of the most popular restaurants in New York City.
