Seven Things to Look Forward to in New York City in 2022
Happy New Year! With new restaurants, museums and more soon to make their debut, we are expecting a huge bounce back in New York City in the year 2022. This is great news for locals and visitors alike. So with that in mind, here are seven things to look forward to in New York City in 2022.
Celebrating Chinese New Year in Chinatown
We are hoping 2022 is when some of our favorite annual traditions in New York City return. This includes the big Chinese New Year celebration in Chinatown. We were sad that last year, we were unable to celebrate in the Chinatown streets and to take in all the energy like in years past. Fingers crossed that the big Chinese New Year parade and celebration makes a triumphant and energetic return this year! Chinese New Year will start on February 1 and it will be the year of the tiger.
New Restaurants Opening

We were also sad to see a lot of restaurants in New York City, including some of our absolute favorites, close for good over the last two years but we are excited and optimistic to see more and more new restaurants replacing many of those empty storefronts. In Chinatown alone, Cha Kee (43 Mott St), Ming Wong Restaurant (61 Mott St), House of Joy (28 Pell St), Uncle Lou (73 Mulberry St) and Mott Street Eatery (98 Mott St) opened recently. We expect this to continue into 2022 so it is a very exciting time to be a foodie in New York City.
NYC Restaurant Week is Coming Back
Similarly, one foodie event in New York City that we always mark on our calendars is NYC Restaurant Week, which starts on January 18 and lasts until February 13, 2022. It is a great time to try somewhere new or revisit some of your favorite restaurants. With so many restaurants participating every year, there are many cuisines from around the world represented and a bunch of great deals to be had!
Going on a Food Tour of New York City
Another thing that we are especially excited to see continuing to come back in 2022 is food tours! These tours are a great way to visit historical NYC neighborhoods and sample some of the best food that they have to offer. Here is a great list of food tours in New York City to check out including our own food tour, Taste Mulberry Street!
Governors Island Opening All Year Round
It was recently announced that Governors Island will be open year round so this will be the first winter that you can visit this beautiful park with breathtaking views. It is one of our favorite New York City staycation ideas and it is just a short ferry ride away from Lower Manhattan.
Museum of Broadway Opening in Times Square

Museum of Broadway (145 West 45th St) will be opening in the summer of 2022 in the heart of Times Square. It will celebrate the fascinating history of theater and Broadway, offer interactive experiences, and give you a sneak peek at what happens behind the scenes.
The Italian American Museum Reopening in Little Italy
P.C.: italianamericanmuseum.org
Finally, the Italian American Museum (155 Mulberry St) closed back in 2018 for renovations and they will finally reopen at the same address in the fall of 2022, with a new sleeker, larger space. The Italian American Museum tells the story of Italian Americans in New York City and we can’t wait to see what new exhibits they will have.
