Dumplings on Ahoy New York Food Tour

Looking for the best dumpling shops in NYC?

Dumplings can come in all sorts of yummy shapes, sizes, flavors and fillings. They can be pan fried, boiled or steamed and honestly, we love them all! Here are our picks on the seven best dumplings in New York City. Best of all, all the spots on this list promise a tasty meal that won’t break the bank.

Jin Mei Dumpling – 25B Henry St B

Jin Mei Dumpling is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Chinatown. It is also one of the favorite cheap eats spots at the moment as their juicy pork & chives dumplings that can be served fried or steamed are just $5 for 15 dumplings. Tasty Dumpling (42 Mulberry St) across the street from Columbus Park is another good fried dumplings/ potstickers spot in the area.

Noodle Village – 70 Mott St

One of the downsides of going to Jin Mei Dumpling unfortunately is that it is only a takeout spot so if you are looking for a more relaxing, sit-down restaurant, we highly recommend Noodle Village. They have a menu full of scrumptious soup noodles, so it is easy to overlook that they have delicious dumplings too. Their fried vegetable dumplings are one of our must haves here. They are massive and packed with flavor. Check out these dumplings and more on our Chinatown and Little Italy Food Fest tour. It is a celebration of all the best foods that you can find in these two foodie neighborhoods!

Shanghai 21 – 21 Mott St

Shanghai 21 Soup Dumplings

You can’t have a list of the best dumplings in New York City without a pick for the best Shanghai soup dumplings aka xiao long bao. There are a few excellent Shanghai restaurants in Chinatown, but our favorite is Shanghai 21. The two things that you look for in a good soup dumpling is a flavorful broth and a delicate but chewy skin and Shanghai 21’s dumplings have both of those.

White Bear – 135-02 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing

White Bear Spicy WontonsP.C.: yelp, Jacqueline T.

White Bear is another hole in a wall, no frills type shop but their spicy wontons have quickly become a can’t miss iconic dish in New York City. Their secret are wontons stuffed with pork and topped with chili oil. It is a simple but an unbeatable flavor combination. These wontons bring crowds to Flushing alone but luckily, the line moves fast.

Dumpling Man – 100 St Marks Pl #7

Dumpling Man East Village

Another popular dumpling spot that is totally worth a visit is Dumpling Man in the East Village. This warm and inviting shop makes pretty and delicious dumplings. They often have bright vibrant colors and can be best described as little flavor bombs. One of the more unusual dumplings on the menu here is their sweet pumpkin steamed dumplings. It is a dish that we haven’t found elsewhere.

Nom Wah – 25 11th Ave Kiosk 11

Market 57 Nom Wah Dumplings

One of the best things about eating dim sum is getting a lot of interesting dishes to share with friends and family. A lot of those dishes happen to be dumplings! Nom Wah at Market 57 is our favorite spot for dim sum in Chelsea. They have top notch shrimp siu mai, chicken & cabbage, pork & shrimp and edamame dumplings. Market 57 is an amazing food hall highlighting women and minority owned businesses and you can taste Nom Wah’s dumplings on our Market 57 Chelsea Food Tour. Join us on a tour this spring. In fact, if you use the code SPRING25 you can save 20% on tour tickets or gift certificates!

Sanmiwago – 90 Bowery & Other Locations

Finally, Sanmiwago is a Taiwanese dumpling chain restaurant that has super addictive dumplings. You can get chicken, shrimp or vegetable dumplings, boiled or pan fried and what really sets them apart from other dumpling shops are their super thin and delicate dumpling skins. Add a little bit of chili crisp and you have a tasty snack that hits the spot any time of day.
