Craving some ice cream? You know we are! You may be surprised to find that Chinatown is the place to be for these sweet treats. There are so many interesting ice cream shops scattered throughout the neighborhood. So with everything from durian ice cream to towering egg waffle sundaes, here are the seven best ice cream shops in Chinatown, New York City.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory – 65 Bayard St
P.C.: yelp, Tea N.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is the oldest and probably the most popular ice cream shop in Chinatown. They are renowned for their creative Asian flavors like red bean, lychee, almond cookie and even durian. Plus if you think the lines are just too long, they now have another location, the Lower East Side Cream Factory (115 Delancey St) at the new Essex Market.
Minus10 Ice Cream – 10 Mott St & 132 Allen St
P.C.: yelp, Caroline W.
Thai rolled ice cream is quite popular and Minus10 is still in our opinion the best ice cream shop for them. They have a lot of tempting flavors and toppings and it is quite fun seeing them make your sweet and delicious concoctions right in front of you.
Milk and Cream – 159 Mott St
Milk and Cream is easily the most interesting and probably the quirkiest ice cream shop in Chinatown. They combine the love of cereal and ice cream and you can really come up with some crazy but tasty combinations! They have 18 different cereals to choose from and a bunch of other yummy toppings. It can be served as a milkshake or an ice cream swirl in a cup or cone. If you can’t make up your mind, they also have a menu of their most popular combinations to choose from!
Milkcow – 69A Bayard St
Bayard Street has quickly become a hub for dessert shops in Chinatown. Milkcow, a popular Korean chain is one of the newest shops on this street and we absolutely love their creamy milk flavored soft serve sundaes. These sundaes definitely make you go wow when you see them and when you taste them! We can’t get enough of their Macao Dream sundae which has almond slices and even a macaron on it!
Sam’s Fried Ice Cream – 37B Orchard St
P.C.: Sam’s Fried Ice Cream
If you’ve never had deep fried ice cream, you’re missing out! The warm crispy crust and the sweet cold ice cream inside is an unbeatable combination. You can customize your ice cream is all sorts of yummy ways here. For example you can start with a black sesame ice cream, get an oreo crust and top all of it with a caramel drizzle. Mmmm… our mouths are watering just thinking about it!
Taiyaki NYC – 119 Baxter St
P.C.: yelp, Albert H.
Taiyaki is a fish shaped cake, popular in Japan and in Taiyaki NYC, you can get your ice cream in you guessed it, a taiyaki! So if you question which to get, the cup or fish shaped cone, it is a no brainer. You have to get the cone! We are also always going back for their Asian inspired flavors and toppings. The line can be long at times but it always seems to move fast.
Eggloo – 60 Mulberry St
Last but certainly not least is Eggloo. They are located across the street from Columbus Park and you can get huge Hong Kong egg waffles sundaes here and trust us pairing a warm fluffy egg waffle with cold creamy ice cream is incredibly addictive. You can try it on our Taste of Mulberry Street food tour!
