Things to Do in New York City for Spring & Summer 2014
There really is no better time to be in New York City! We want to highlight some the fun things to do in New York City specifically for spring and summer 2014. As always, we also would love to hear your suggestions to add to the list.
Hester Street Fair – April 26 to October 26
The Hester Street Fair starts this year on Saturday, April 26 and it lasts through the fall. It is a short walk from Chinatown and in the past, you can find all sort of goodies for sale like lobster rolls, pastrami sandwiches and yummy macarons. Similarly Brooklyn Flea is another fun foodie option and it is held outdoors during the warmer months.
Sakura Matsuri – April 26 to 27
Sakura Matsuri is the annual cherry blossom festival held at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. It is a celebration of Japanese food, music and culture. There are also a number of events from fashion shows to taiko drummers, and not to mention the beautiful cherry blossom trees which makes for a perfect backdrop.
Queens Taste – April 29
Queens is sometimes an overlooked borough in New York City when it comes to great food. To fix that, there is the Queens Taste event. It is a ticketed culinary event that highlights some of the best Queens restaurants and food purveyors. There will be tastings of all sorts of cuisines and it should be a lot of fun!
Manhattan Cocktail Classic – May 9 to 13
Fans of cocktails should definitely look into the Manhattan Cocktail Classic event. It can be described as one large cocktail party across the city that stretches for five days. It all starts with The Gala (May 9th) in the main branch of The New York Public Library and throughout the five days there are will be various cocktail workshops and presentations.
Big Apple Barbecue Block Party – June 7 to 8
We always look forward to the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. It is an annual gathering of the best pitmasters from around the country. We can’t wait to try all the pastrami, briskets and ribs! The lines can get long, especially at the more popular pitmasters’ stands so plan accordingly.
Celebrate Brooklyn & Central Park Summerstage
Celebrate Brooklyn and Central Park Summerstage are both great concert series that offer free concerts throughout the summer. Celebrate Brooklyn opens with Janelle Monáe on June 4. Summerstage opens with The Neighbourhood on May 20 but the first free concert is Emilie Simon on June 21. Summerstage also hosts the Brooklyn Flea for food and drinks during their concerts and in years past, it stars delicious snacks from Asia Dog, Lonestar Empire (great brisket sandwiches) and Blue Marble Ice Cream.
