Where to Eat Around Penn Station and Madison Square Garden
Every day more than 600,000 people make their way to and around Penn Station and even more people pass through the area when there is a major sporting event or concert at Madison Square Garden. If you are ever one of the 600,000+ people, you may be looking for a good place for lunch or dinner. There is actually a surprisingly good mix of different cuisines in the neighborhood and here are the best places to eat around Penn Station and Madison Square Garden.
The Pennsy – 2 Pennsylvania Plaza
First, the Pennsy is a new high end food court and it is our go to spot for lunch whenever we are in the neighborhood. There is truly something for everyone. For example, there are delicious lobster paninis from Lobster Press, scrumptious roast beef sandwiches from Pat LaFrieda and tasty vegan donuts from The Cinnamon Snail. Yum!
Brother Jimmy’s BBQ – 416 8th Ave
If you love authentic barbecue like us then Brother Jimmy’s BBQ is a great option! Be sure to come here with an empty stomach because there have huge servings of top notch ribs, brisket, BBQ chicken and more!
Keens Steakhouse – 72 W 36th St
Keens Steakhouse is one of the premier steakhouses in the country and one of premier options for fine dining in New York City. It is only a short walk from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Expect huge steaks but even just a bite of their porterhouse is pure bliss.
Tick Tock Diner – 481 8th Ave
Tick Tock Diner is one of the very few places open 24/7 so it is a great spot to pick up a big breakfast, hearty lunch or late night dinner. They have all the diner classics like pancakes, burgers and chicken sandwiches but their best thing on their menu are their milkshakes. It just hits the spot and it is perfect for just about every meal (OK maybe not breakfast).
Five Guys – 316 W 34th St
Five Guys has some of best burgers in New York City and they have a location close to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. We love their loaded burgers with 2 beef patties, bacon, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes and a whole lot more!
Feile – 131 W 33rd St
Another good spot for burgers is Feile. In fact, it is the perfect spot for a burger and a drink after a big game. Feile has good food, good service and a good atmosphere. What more can you ask for?
Stella 34 Trattoria – 151 West 34th St
Finally, Stella is a hidden gem in the area. It is a modern Italian restaurant on the 6th Floor of Macy’s. They have an extensive menu of interesting pizzas, pastas and other Italian classics. But trust us save room for dessert!
