The Seven Best Burgers in New York City

Looking for the best burger spots in New York City?

If you are anything like us here at Ahoy New York Tours & Tasting, you are craving that perfect burger. Luckily, there are a lot of contenders in New York City. Here are some of our favorites and here is our list of the seven best burgers in New York City.

Burger By Day – 242 Grand St

Burger By Day Bacon Cheeseburger and Onion Rings
Surprisingly, one of our favorite burger shops can be found in Chinatown. Burger By Day, located close to the Grand Street subway station, makes an amazing smash burger. It always has crispy, caramelized beef patties that are seasoned perfectly and are never too greasy. Pair this burger with some fries and it is one of our go-to lunches.

Hamburger America – 155 W Houston St

Hamburger America Smashburger
George Motz is a burger historian and popular Internet personality, so we were so excited when he opened his first burger joint right here in New York City. Hamburger America is a celebration of the history of all the exciting burgers found across the United States and beyond. He is probably best known for his onion burger, but we are always excited to try his monthly burger specials which are usually regional burgers that are hard to find elsewhere. Some of these specials can be a little odd but trust us they are always delicious!

Gotham Burger Social Club – 131 Essex St

Another must try when looking for the perfect smash burger is the Gotham Burger Social Club. It is top notch and in addition, you also must get their frickles, fried pickles slices. There is just something nostalgic about their burgers and comfort foods on their menu.

BK Jani – 601 Lexington Ave & Other Locations

BK Jani Backyard Burger
As much as we love smash burgers, sometimes we just want a towering burger with a huge, juicy beef patty. BK Jani offers just that with a bit of a Pakistani twist. They can be found in food halls like the Hugh and DeKalb Market Hall. Between their most popular burgers, the Jani or the backyard burger, we can’t choose a favorite so you may have try both! Also, if you are on a low or no carb diet, you can get their burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun.

Burger Joint -119 West 56th St & Other Locations

Burger Joint Burger and FriesP.C.: yelp, Arielle D.

Burger Joint was once a secret among foodies in the know. It is a hidden, no-frills eatery hidden away by a red curtain in the lobby of the Thompson Central Park Hotel. But the secret is now out, and it is probably one of the most popular burger spots in NYC. But here is a new secret! If you want to avoid the lines, check out their location in Industry City or Moynihan Food Hall. They have the same delicious burger without all the lines.

Minetta Tavern – 113 Macdougal St

Minetta Tavern Black Label BurgerP.C.: yelp, Eric H.

Minetta Tavern is an iconic NYC tavern and French bistro in Greenwich Village and one of their most popular items is their Black Label Burger. It is the stuff of legend as it packs a ton of flavor in every bite. The burger is made with prime dry aged beef cuts and served with just caramelized onions so no cheese or any other crazy toppings. Their beef is just that tasty so everything else is unnecessary.

Smashy – 42 Union Sq E

Finally, if you are looking for a cheap, quick and tasty lunch, few things are as reliable as the smashburger from Smashy, a burger shop with just two locations, Budapest and Union Square. The NYC location opened just last year, it has never let us down and we have visited them plenty of times! Plus, Union Square is just a great place to enjoy a burger among all the hustle and bustle of the city.
